Confessions of a Ski Bum: Kicking Horse Pass, Day Tripping is a modern backcountry ski guide for day trips in the Kicking Horse Pass area found at the border of Banff and Yoho National Parks. Includes detailed descriptions, directions, terrain photos and maps for everything from tree skiing to no fall glacier descents. This 128 page, 8.5” by 5.5” guidebook includes 76 colour pictures, 10 topo maps, 10 ski zones with 62 runs/routes to keep even the most keen skier busy for many seasons. Four guest writers help include the most gnarly lines found in the area including Birth Canal Couloir, the East Face of Cathedral Mountain and the north face of Mount Victoria. A gripping first hand account of the first descent of Popes Summit Couloir by the legendary alpinist Jon Walsh is also included.

Areas covered include: Mount Bosworth, Bath Exit Valley, Paget Peak, Ogden South, Ogden North, Great Divide Creek, Narao & Popes Peaks, Cathedral, Collier Peak and Mount Victoria North Summit.

  • Marcus Baranow has dedicated the last decade of his life exploring, documenting and writing about the backcountry skiing found in and around Banff National Park. His previous books covered the area found along The Great Divide between Citadel Pass/Egypt Lake and The Icefield Parkway. He spends 100-150 days a year skiing in the Canadian Rockies and his blog Confessions Of A Ski Bum is regarded as a “go to” source for current conditions by many local skiers and guides. He currently lives in Lake Louise Alberta, found just minutes away from Kicking Horse Pass.

The four guest writers for this book include:
Ty Mills, ACMG Ski Guide and owner of All Aspects Alpine.
Matt Ruta, former member of the Alberta Ski Cross Team and current big line pioneer.
Jon Walsh, legendary alpinist and badass carpenter.
Luke Seed, born and breed Lake Louise local.
